Off Leash Dog Parks
Piedmont Park Dog Park - Atlanta
Atlanta's first leash-free dog park! This park is open during daylight hours and offers dog water fountains, big rocks for dogs to climb on, hilly terrain, benches, free dog waste bags, and will soon have a shelter to provide shade. There are several restaurants located around the park that allow dogs. Park Tavern is adjacent to the park and has a large outdoor seating area that is packed with people and dogs on most pretty days.
University of Georgia Intramural Fields - Athens
Wooded trails are available for walking dogs on leash, but dogs are not allowed on the playing fields. Many people illegally walk their dogs off leash around the swimming lake, so be warned that you might encounter loose dogs. The off leash dog park area is hidden in woods and can be found by driving all the way to the back of park past the tennis courts. Parking available but sometimes it is hard to find a spot. The "Dog Park" is found by following a trail. This area is not fenced in so don't bring your dog if it is likely to run away. There used to be a swimming pond but now it is mostly drained. Very few people are at this park and it is mostly used by students who are out jogging. Note: The park sometimes has a foul smell from the river, particularly true in the evenings. Some rumors circulate that the park harbors virulent strains of Parvo virus so please don't bring any puppies. Located off of College Station Road, across from UGA Health Center
Sandy Creek Park - Athens
This park is located off of Route 441 about 2 miles north of Athens on Bob Holman Road. The dog parks are fully fenced with a picnic table, trees, and running water, and there is 1 public dog park and 3 private ones for rental. It is managed by Athens-Clarke County. The park's phone number is 706-613-3631.
Ronald Reagan Park - Lawrenceville
This park is located at 5 Forks Trickum Road and is open from 7 a.m. to dusk. Ronald Reagan Park is Gwinnett's first Passive Community Park and home to the county's first dog park, a two-acre fenced-in area where dogs can play off their leashes. This is a great dog park with 3 separate fenced in areas one for big dogs, one for small dogs and one that spans the back of both, which is nice and LONG, for dogs to really let loose and RUN it's great for playing fetch, away from the distractions of all the other dogs. They both have doggie water fountains, and various agility type props set up in both. This park is great for kids and people too!
Lenora Park - Snellville
This large fenced in off leash dog park area is due to open around June 1, 2006. Lenora already has some nice walking paths and play areas. The off leash areas are sodded and have some agility props set up. As yet there does'nt seem to be much shade. Hopefully they will be planting some fast growing trees.
Pinckneyville Dog Park, Norcross GA
The dog park includes grassy areas primarily located on the Colonial Pipeline Easement that runs through Pinckneyville Park and also encompasses some wooded areas for shade. There are two enclosures, one for Small dogs and one for Large dogs. Amenities include water fountains, poop bag stations, trash cans, benches, and agility equipment.
