Find your dog a good home...

Do not dump your dog to your local county shelter or animal care and control. That puts your dog a great risk. Most government owned shelters are in the animal "management" business and not the rescue business.

Check with your local rescue organizations first to see if they offer rehome assistance. Local rescues that have adoption days at locations like Petsmart are great because this offers your dogs more exposure.

If there is no help available locally, IDOG RRR can work with you to find a new home while your dog stays safely with you.  Our listings on Petfinder reach many potential adopters and can be printed out at home for you to post on local notice boards at places like veterinarian clinics, pet orientated businesses, dog parks etc.  Applications come through to our volunteers who pre-screen them before sending the details on to you to follow up. We will also do reference checks and supply adoption contracts for you to use.  There is no charge for this service, but we do ask that the person adopting your dog pay an adoption donation (usually $100 to $200) to our Rescue Fund.  We do not condone the practice of offering dogs "free to a good home".  A reasonable adoption fee ensures that there is a tangible level of commitment and, combined with our careful pre-screening, ensures that your dog's next home will be his forever home.

In certain cases, we will consider taking owner surrenders into foster care, but as this ties up foster homes that may be needed for dogs at risk, this option is considered on a case by case basis.

We will NOT accept aggressive dogs.

For dogs that have a bite history but are not necessarily aggressive, the only option is that you keep your dog safe in your home while we work with you, and we may request an evaluation by a reputable behaviorist at your expense.
