IDOG RRR Home - Rehome Process
First! DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO A SHELTER, POUND OR HUMANE SOCIETY!!!
You put your dog at great risk of being killed.
Second, if you obtained your dog from a breeder contact them first. You may have an contract agreement which you will need to discuss with them.
Rehome Assisted Steps:
If you are able to keep your dog until the new home is found we will work with you by pre-screening applicants, checking references and making suggestions but we will also need you to speak to people and give your input. We find that the collaborative effort really does work well. Should you feel that you would rather us take him into foster care, we will do that if we have a foster available.
We do not believe that people should ever be given a free dog. We've just seen too many times that the commitment to the dog and making things work can be a lot less - but neither do we support the "re-selling" of dogs. For this reason if the dog is being rehomed from the owner we set a standard rehome fee of $200 payable by the adopter to the IDOG Rescue Fund and insist that our Generic Adoption Contract be used so that the dog has adequate protection in the event that the home doesn't work out (most do though.) This contract stipulates that if the dog cannot be kept it must be returned to, or rehomed by IDOG.
The $200 amount has been decided upon after much experience - it seems to be the figure that most people will regard as a serious enough commitment, but not so much that people resent paying it. It is the same amount regardless of the original purchase price of the dog. $200 is also about what it costs us to rescue the average doodle in a kill shelter, so it's a nice way to pay it forward.
If the dog is not neutered or spayed, we require that the dog be altered prior to placement, or that ownership of the dog be signed over to IDOG and the dog will be placed in a new home under a Preliminary Adoption Contract that will not be finalized until the procedure has been completed, in which case IDOG will pay for procedure if necessary.
We really treat these dogs as carefully as if they are our own and we have found some wonderful homes for many many doodles. This is a difficult decision you have made and we appreciate the unselfish nature of your wishes for your dog to have a better life.
If you are unable to rehome your Labradoodle or Goldendoodle and need additional help and support please complete the following Rehome Submission about your dog and submit it to our rescue coordinators.
